Online Orientation

All students must complete the online orientation and the orientation quiz at the first class meeting. Attendance to the first class meeting is mandatory.

You must purchase the text book at an on campus BC bookstore online, or from another student prior to starting the orientation. Be sure that the edition and level are correct.

First log into Blackboard (see instructions below). In Blackboard you will be presented with the orientation instructions.

Once you have completed the online orientation you must take the quiz. You may take the quiz as many times as you need to get 100%. When you get 100% on the orientation quiz the rest of the course will become available.

Course Description
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

Methods of Instruction
This is a 3 credit hour course. Normally, a three credit hour course would meet two or three times each week (during a 16 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 48 hours per term. In this class, we will meet once a week for a total of 24 hours per term. Students will be engaged in structured reading assignments, written and online exercises and problems, and online interactive questions and discussions. See the course syllabus for a detailed description of learning activities for this class. Students are responsible for regularly reviewing the course syllabus and completing all required assignments.

Course Requirements
Please make sure that you meet the following requirements before you sign-up for this course:
  • All exams will be given in class. Actual dates and times will be provided in your syllabus.
  • Your homework assignments will be turned in via Blackboard. There will be additional assignments that must be prepared using Microsoft Word and Excel and sent to me by campus e-mail (not the Blackboard e-mail). You should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • The course assignments are broken down in the following areas: reading, learning pronunciation, listening exercises and problems, and quizzes. Late assignments will not be accepted.

    • High speed internet access is preferred but not required. There will be some audio files that you will want to listen to that will require downloading.
  • Important! You must enable the pop-up feature for your browser. If you are using Netscape or Internet Explorer, you will not be able to take the quizzes unless this feature is enabled.

    • In addition you will be doing work in the Language Lab on campus.

How to Access the Course once you are Enrolled in this Course
Students can login on the first day of class. Please understand that the only people who will be permitted to login are those students who have registered and paid for the course. There may be a delay of up to 36 hours from when a students registers and pays before Blackboard login is activated. Please pay prior to the first day of class.
  • Obtain BC email user ID and PIN code before attempting to login to Blackboard. This is the link to theID Lookup page.
  • Enter your SS# (or INTL Student ID#) and PIN code (2 digit birth month and 2 digit year). Write down your email ID (not the @broward.edu). That's your Blackboard login.
  • Your Blackboard ID is the same as your BC email user ID.
  • Your Blackboard password is the same as your BC email PIN code.
